The wonder of the discovery was there: all along the path leading to the cliff, Rémi, our guide, explained to us the formation of the Blot cliff, talked about different rocks and the flora of the banks of the Allier. He also identified several birds, insects and plants.

Once arrived, Marilyne detailed the way of life of prehistoric men, mainly Magdalenians, from the cliff of the Blot. Then we were able to visit the excavation.
The feeling felt in this place where man has always existed was very special.

Nearly 3 million years old, the Blot cliff was formed with a previous lava flow from the Pié du Roy volcano on the current right bank of the Allier. This one, digging through its base the flow, formed the cliff and a rock shelter used by Paleolithic men. The tools and engravings as well as the lithic technology found at the Blot bear witness to a glacial fauna inhabited by the Magdalenians and Proto Magdalenians.

This free short hike through the magnificent landscape of the banks of the Allier, organized by the association PANPA Haut-Allier and the SMAT Haut-Allier for which we thank, allowed us to discover our local archaeological and natural heritage.
